GREENSBORO, N.C. – After starting the day with a one-stroke lead, Australian Karl Vilips ripped off 10 birdies, including five straight from Nos. 7-11, to take control heading into the final round at Sedgefield Country Club’s Pete Dye Course.

With an 8-under-par 62, Vilips tied the competitive course record, set in 2017 at a G Pro Tour event. Vilips is the No. 1 player in the Rolex AJGA Rankings.

“I didn’t notice how low I was until I made a bogey on 13 and looked at the standard bearer to see where I was at,” said Vilips. “My lowest was a 63, also in an AJGA event, in a Junior All-Star. That putt on the last was to beat my personal best which is pretty cool.”

The Wyndham Invitational presented by BB&T is in the midst of its 17th year in Greensboro, North Carolina, with 72 of the top boys in the country. Seventy-eight alumni of the Invitational have gone on to compete on the PGA TOUR, including Jordan Spieth, Rickie Fowler and Patrick Reed, along with past champions Justin Thomas and Brian Harman.

The Stanford verbal commit out of Wesley Chapel, Florida, sits at 13-under-par 197 and is looking to win his fifth AJGA tournament and third Invitational.

Orlando’s Eugene Hong sits in solo second at 4-under-par 206, nine strokes off the lead. The University of Florida signee won the Wyndham Invitational in 2016 and finished runner-up last year.

South Korea’s Jeewon Park, playing out of Lake Mary, Florida, is in solo third at 3-under-par 207 after a bogey-free third round. 15-year-old Gordon Sargent of Birmingham, Alabama, climbed to solo fourth at 2-under-par 208. George Duangmanee of Fairfax, Virginia, is in fifth at 1-under-par 209.
