HPU’s Mullins & Prillaman Earn Big South WSOC Weekly Honors

HIGH POINT, N.C. – High Point University women’s soccer earns some conference recognition this Saturday after posting back-to-back wins against Presbyterian and UNC Asheville. Sophomore defender Mackenzie Mullins earns her first Big South Defensive Player of the Week honor, while forward Skyler Prillaman is back for her second Freshman of the Week designation this year after the pair combined for six points last week.

Starting on the backline in both contests against the Bulldogs and the Blue Hose, Mullins helped her team keep its two opponents to a single goal over the course of the week. The New Jersey-native played 79 minutes of the Panthers’ 3-0 shutout victory over UNCA, while tallying the first assist of her career against Presbyterian. Mullins’ helper came on Prillaman’s first goal of the week, playing a ball over the Blue Hose’s offsides trap, to spring her teammate for a one-on-one opportunity with the goalkeeper. The Panthers’ lone goal surrendered against Presbyterian came when Mullins was not present on the field, with the Panthers giving up a last minute opportunity in a 4-1 blowout.

Prillaman continues to be HPU’s primary scoring threat this season, gathering her fifth and sixth goals of the year this past week of play. Both of the freshman’s tallies were eventual game-winners, as she added her third assist of 2018 on Becca Palmer’s goal against Asheville. Prillaman secured her first goal on a one-on-opportunity with the Presbyterian goalkeeper, before burying a back door opportunity against the Bulldogs this past Saturday. The Virginia-native is currently on a three-match scoring streak and has collected four goals and 11 points in her last seven appearances.

The Panther offense has been finding the net with great success the past few weeks, outscoring opponents 15-6 and posting a 4-1-2 record over the team’s past seven matches. High Point is currently tied with Longwood for second place in the Big South, trailing only Radford for the top spot in the conference.
