Elon Cross Country Heads to ECU Pirate Invitational

ELON, N.C. – The Elon University men’s and women’s cross country teams are set to race in their final meet of the season before postseason competition at the ECU Pirate Invitational on Friday, Oct. 12. The meet is scheduled to begin with the women’s 6K at 4:45 p.m. followed by the men’s 8K at 5:20 p.m. at the Overton’s Lake Kristi course.

Quick Splits
• The Phoenix last competed at the Queen City Invitational on Sept. 28, in Charlotte, N.C. The Phoenix women finished third overall at the meet with 92 points while the men’s squad was sixth with 174 points.
• A number of athletes set new personal-records at the Queen City Invite, including three breaking into the program’s top-10 performance lists. Coralea Geraniotis set a new personal-best time of 17:26 in the 5K and was the runner-up. Her time is now the third-fastest performance in school history.
• Speaking of Geraniotis, the Orleans, Mass., native was selected as the Colonial Athletic Association Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week on Oct. 2. It was the second career weekly accolade for the senior.
• Andrew Miller led the Phoenix men for the second straight meet at the Queen City Invitational. The Fleming Island, Fla., native ran a time of 25:05 in the men’s 8K run – the fourth-fastest time in school history.

Queen City Invitational Recap
Along with Geraniotis and Miller, junior Melissa Anastasakis also clocked a new top-10 program time at the Queen City Invitational. The Hillsdale, Ontario, native had a huge jump in setting her new personal-record by over a minute as she ran a time of 17:48 in the race and was seventh overall.

Chelsea Smith was the third Phoenix runner to cross the finish line in 19th and also set a new personal-record with her time of 18:12. Freshman Hannah Preeo was next with her time of 18:19 in 22nd followed by Natacha Savioz, who ran a 18:43 as scoring runner for the Phoenix women.

Kieran Ungemach followed Miller for the Elon men with his time of 25:45 and 28th overall. Colton Lawson was the third Phoenix runner to cross the line with his time of 26:09 followed by Richie Kasper (26:12) and Cooper Jansson (26:19) as the other scoring runners for Elon.
