The Charlotte 49ers’ search for a football coach took an odd twist Wednesday when James Madison coach Mike Houston told the Harrisonburg (Va.) Daily News-Record he had been offered the 49ers job but did not say whether he had accepted it.
The newspaper reported Houston read a statement saying he was interested in the 49ers offer, but that his focus was on JMU’s second-round NCAA Football Championship Subdivision playoff game Saturday against Colgate.
Earlier Wednesday, college football writer Bruce Feldman of The Athletic cited a source saying Houston is expected to be the 49ers’ next coach, replacing Brad Lambert, who was fired Nov. 18.++++++++++
$$$$$ Brad Lambert was (22-48) overall in six seasons as the Charlotte 49ers head coach…Lambert and Charlotte were (5-7) this season/2018 and again, Lambert built this Charlotte 49er football program from scratch…No football at Charlotte until Lambert came on board and built the team, from-the-bottom-up and many feel that if Judy Rose was still the AD at Charlotte, Brad Lambert would still be the football coach, of the 49ers….$$$$$
