ST. MARYS CITY, Md.— The Greensboro College men’s basketball team fell to the St. Mary’s College of Maryland Seahawks Monday, 83-71.

The Seahawks jumped out ahead early to take a 6-0 lead.

Keyshawn Dorsey was first to score for the Pride after Michael Phifer assisted him on a layup to bring the score to 6-2 with 17:40 on the clock.

St. Mary’s tried to hold on to the lead, but Greensboro claimed their first lead of the contest at 15-13 with less than 12 minutes remaining in the first half.

The Seahawks were able to tie the score at 15 a few seconds later, but Carmoni Marks dropped six unanswered points for the Pride to begin to pull away from St. Mary’s.

As time ran out of the first half, the Seahawks’ offense tried to take back the lead, but the Pride would not let St. Mary’s get within three points and Greensboro took a 42-28 lead going into the second half.

The Pride held onto the lead for the first eight minutes of the second half, but the Seahawks took back the lead at 55-53.

Greensboro was able to tie the contest one last time at 61 with 7:32 showing on the clock, but St. Mary’s sparked a 17-2 run shortly after to pull away from the Pride and secure the win.

“We had an excellent first half, but a poor second half,” Head Coach Bryan Galuski said. “Each game continues to be a learning experience for all of us.

“The result is not what we wanted, but this trip will always be remembered. We took a tour of the nationals capital, took in the view of the White House, visited Arlington Cemetery and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and played a college basketball game. It was a memorable trip!”

Justin Minnis recorded a team-high 19 points for Greensboro. Phifer (16) and Keyford Langley (14) joined Minnis in double figures scoring, while Carmoni Marks ended the evening with 11 points and a game-high nine rebounds.

The Pride will return to the hardwood after the holiday break on Dec. 29 when they travel to cross-town rival Guilford College for a 4 p.m. tip-off. For more information on Greensboro College men’s basketball, continue to follow www.greensborocollegesports.com.
