GREENSBORO, N.C. — Freshman Lindsay Gauldin poured in a career-best 27 points as Guilford College defeated 22nd ranked Emory & Henry, 77-57, on Wednesday night.
Guilford improved to 10-4 and 7-1 in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) action. Emory & Henry dropped to 11-3 and 5-3 in the ODAC.
Gauldin grabbed 12 rebounds and recorded her eighth double-double of the season. She was 9-of-14 shooting, converted 7-of-10 free throws, dished five assists and collected three steals for the home team.
Guilford shot a season-best 55-percent (26-47) in the game. The Quakers held the Wasps to 39-percent shooting (21-54) and led in rebounding, 33-24.
GC held a 43-25 lead at halftime. Gauldin scored 18 points in the first half.
Miracle Walters contributed 19 points for Guilford with 13 of them in the second half. She was 9-of-12 from the field. Calyn Davis added 16 points. She made 4-of-6 three-pointers and all four of her free throws.
Guilford led from start to finish and held its biggest lead of 23 points with 56 seconds remaining in the third quarter. A layup by Kayla Stafford with 3:36 left in regulation cut the E&H margin to
65-50, but the visitors got no closer.
Stafford, Peyton Williams and Taylor Blevins all recorded 10 points for Emory & Henry.
The Quakers host Randolph-Macon on Saturday (1/12). Game time for the ODAC contest is 2 p.m.
