Game Report – Boys Basketball: Southwest Guildford vs Parkland

The Cowboys ended their busy week by hosting the Mustangs of Parkland. The Mustangs are coming in playing some good basketball, having won the Frank Spencer in convincing fashion. These two conference foes split last years match-ups, with both teams winning on their home floors. The game at Parkland was tight 3 point ball game won by the hosts, while the game at Southwest was a 27 point win by the Cowboys. Southwest was looking to keep a strong hold on first place in the conference and the Mustangs were looking to keep their solid play rolling. The Cowboys opened the game up with a made three pointer shortly after the tip off. The Mustangs quickly responded with a pair of made free throws to cut it to 3-2. That was as close it would be on the night. Southwest went on an 8-0 run that pushed it to 11-2. Parkland stopped the bleeding with a basket. That was their last points of the frame as the Cowboys ended the stanza with an 11-0 run to close it up 22-4.

The second quarter was more of the same, as a solid defensive game by the Cowboys made it difficult for the Mustangs to get anything going offensively. It was 46-18 at halftime.

The story stayed the same as Southwest continued to dictate tempo and clamped down on the other side of the call. A thunderous off the glass alley-oop dunk pushed the margin to 65-25.

From there the Southwest bench played out the game against a Parkland squad that would not go quietly. It was still to much to overcome as the final buzzer ran it showed the Cowboys earn a solid 75-37 win.

Southwest improves to 14-0 and 4-0 in the Piedmont Triad 3A Conference. The Mustangs were led by Camien Shell with 11 points. Southwest was paced by: Jayden Turner with (18, 8 Rebs, 2 Asts), Joel Pettiford with (17, 4 Rebs), and Christian Martin with (15, 4 Rebs, 2 Asts, Stl).
