Davie County mounted a furious rally in the game’s final stages to defeat visiting East Forsyth 55-51 and remain undefeated in Central Piedmont 4A Conference play Friday night in Farmington. The War Eagles trailed for 27 of 32 minutes but scored 15 of the game’s last 17 points to secure their 15th win in 16 starts.

East Forsyth took the lead three minutes into the game & built leads of as many as 11 points throughout the 23 minutes, the last time at 44-33 with 1:45 remaining in the third quarter. The Eagles, now 11-5, led 49-40 with 6:10 left in the game before Davie rallied to take the lead (51-49) for the first time since the game’s opening stages on a drive by Michael Walton with two minutes left.

Jacob Hendrix to followed an East miss with a layup to give the War Eagles their biggest lead of the game (55-51) with 50 seconds left. East’s Savon Brintley scored on a put-back I with seven seconds left to cut the lead to two, but Owen McCormack, the game’s leading scorer with 20 points, hit two free throws with five seconds left to secure the win.

The 6-9 McCormick also added a game-high seven rebounds & six blocked shots for Davie, who lost the rebound battle to East Forsyth 32-23 but was efficient inside the arc, making 17 of its 23 two-point FG attempts.

East Forsyth’s Brintley led the Eagles in scoring with 17 and added six rebounds, as did Matt Rivers and Torrian Jackson. The Eagles, defending champion of the CPC, travel to RJ Reynolds on Tuesday night and return home next Friday against West Forsyth.
