HPU WBB Panthers Fall to Radford, 79-84, in Double Overtime

• Three players posted double-doubles for High Point.
• Senior Shea Morgan scored a career-high 22 points.
• The Panthers are back in action Tuesday, Feb. 12 at Charleston Southern.

HIGH POINT, N.C. – The High Point University women’s basketball team fell to Radford, 79-84, in double overtime in the Millis Center on Saturday, Feb. 9.

High Point (15-7, 8-3) logged 13 steals and forced 22 Radford (16-6, 10-1) turnovers. The Panthers posted 50 rebounds and 18 assists, while shooting 19-22 (86.4 percent) from the free throw line and 8-25 (32.0 percent) from three. Radford shot 21-36 (58.3 percent) at the charity stripe and 7-25 (28.0 percent) behind the arc.

“I thought our kids battled,” HPU head coach DeUnna Hendrix said. “I’m really proud of our effort. If a couple things go a different way then it’s a different result. Overall, I felt like for the majority of the game we stayed with the game plan. I felt like our kids were entirely bought in and we fought with a lot of effort against a very good Radford team”

Senior Shea Morgan led HPU in scoring with a career-high 22 points, while junior Camryn Brown dished out a career-high 10 assists to go along with her 13 points, four rebounds and four steals. Morgan added seven rebounds and one steal.

Seniors Emma Bockrath and Bria Gibson also posted double-doubles for High Point. Bockrath recorded 12 points, 10 rebounds and five steals, while Gibson had 16 points and 10 rebounds for HPU.

The Panthers led by three after a 2-point jumper from Morgan late in the fourth quarter before Radford hit a free throw and a jump shot to tie the game at 60. The Purple & White took a 63-61 lead after a Radford free throw and a Morgan layup and free throw. Destinee Walker scored for the Highlanders to tie the game and send it to the first overtime at the end of regulation.

Radford held a 70-67 lead in the first overtime before Brown hit a 3-point jumper from the right wing with 14 seconds remaining to tie the game at 70 and send it to a second overtime. The Highlanders jumped out to an eight-point lead and took the win 84-79 in the second overtime.

High Point out-scored Radford off turnovers (17-8), in fast break points (7-4) and in bench points (24-13), while the Highlanders took a slight edge in the paint at 30-27.

Lydia Rivers led Radford with 17 points and 16 rebounds.

Up next, the Panthers will travel to Charleston, S.C. to play Charleston Southern on Tuesday, Feb. 12. Top-off is set for 7 p.m. in the Buc Dome on CSU’s campus.
