RICHMOND, Va. – Elon University men’s tennis swept the Colonial Athletic Association weekly honors on Wednesday, March 13, with Kyle Frankel earning the Player of the Week award and Taylor Foote and Dino Bonetta taking Doubles Team of the Week accolades.
During Elon’s 2-0 week in victories over CAA foes James Madison and William & Mary, Frankel cruised to two victories during singles play and put the Phoenix in position to clinch each victory. Frankel topped Gonzalo Adis 6-0, 6-3 against the Dukes on March 7 to put the Phoenix ahead 3-0 in the match as Elon went on to earn a 7-0 sweep of James Madison. He then went to work on March 10 against William & Mary and was the first singles match to finish with his 6-1, 6-3 win over Oren Vasser.
Rolling along in doubles action, Foote and Bonetta earned two straight wins at the No. 3 position to help Elon win the doubles point in both matches. First against James Madison, Paul Mendoza and Tate Steinour fell victim to Foote and Bonetta 6-3 before Elon’s No. 1 duo of Felipe Sarrasague and Mario Paccini clinched the point on court one. The duo would then top Finbar Talcott and Sebastian Quiros 6-2 on Sunday to clinch the doubles point for the Phoenix against the Tribe.
Elon returns to action this afternoon, March 13, with a 3 p.m. match at Davidson. The Phoenix then completes its two-match road swing on Sunday, March 17 with a contest at East Tennessee State at 12 p.m.
