Only two teams from Guilford County remaining in the playoffs, and those two are Grimsley hosting Kernersville Glenn tonight, and the Ragsdale Tigers visiting the East Forsyth Eagles, over in Kernersville….
Greensboro/Jamestown going over to Kernersville and Kernersville coming to Greensboro…
Both games are in the NCHSAA 4-A West Playoffs, and the Winners will meet next week for the West Regional title…
#5 seed Glenn(9-4) at #1 Grimsley(11-1)….#3 Ragsdale(6-6) at #2 East Forsyth(10-2)….
The Glenn at Grimsley game will be our Murphy Wainer Orthopedic Specialists Game of the Week and we also have Bart Manning and Air Treatment Inc. joining us tonight, along with Ralph Havis and the Beef Burger…Both getting on board and heading into the sponsor’s box…Bart Manning a Grimsley grad, Class of 1985….
We will have that Grimsley-Glenn game for you on GreensboroSports Radio….Our pregame show will begin around 6:55 and the kickoff for Grimsley-Glenn will come in at about 7:30pm….All of the action of High School Football and Round Three of the NCHSAA Playoffs on GreensboroSports Radio…..Don Moore will have the other scores of interest for us on GreensboroSports.com and we will also relay those scores to you over GreensboroSports Radio…..
Grimsley with QB Chris Zellous and RB Quan Nora, both key seniors in the Grimsley lineup….Also on offense Grimsley will look to TE Lawson Albright, WR’s Anthony Dunkins, Christian Tutuh and Jaquavion Mayo…Up front on the offensive line, Grimsley led by Max Baker, Nick McDonald, Coit Slack, Will Thornhill and Gryffyn Bowen…Grimsley line of defense with Thompson, Shaw and Price up front, and then you have Burnette, Williamson, Buckrham, and Allison manning the linebacker spots, plus the Gowens, Mayo and Motley at defensive back, and you are likely to see Chris Zellous back there playing a lot of DB as well, just like James Summers did for Page, back in 2011…Try to have your best athletes on the field at the same time….
Have to feel like Grimsley is ready to win this game tonight, especially with it being at home in the friendly confines of Jamieson Stadium…
Glenn will come in from Kernersville looking to run the ball and RB Monterious Godfrey should be getting the ball at least 30 times tonight for Glenn…He carried the football 32 times last week in Glenn’s 12-11 win at Hickory Ridge….Glenn has a slick sophomore quarterback in Camden Coleman, and he hit his favorite receiver, Aronson Cook, for a touchdown last week against the Bulls at Hickory Ridge…Glenn has blocked 13 punts on the season, with five of the blocks coming from LB Albert Redd…Another LB, and top-tackler on the Glenn team, Raneiria Dillworth, has blocked three punts this season….Also on special teams, Glenn had trouble with their Long Snaps, last Friday night at Hickory Ridge….Bad snaps by Glenn vs. Hickory Ridge…
Grimsley has experienced some difficulty with their kicking game recently and the Whirlies went for two, after their first two TD’s vs. Porter Ridge last Friday night…On Grimsley’s third touchdown, the Whirlies tried the Xtra point kick attempt, but it came from 30 yards away, following a penalty after their touchdown, and the kick was no good….
This could become a defensive battle right before your very eyes, as Grimsley held on to win last week, 22-17, after leading 22-6 at halftime and Glenn defeated Hickory Ridge, 12-11, after the Hickory Rigde extra point try late in the game, bounded off of the upright and fell out…The Hickory Ridge coach said he had thoughts about going for two, and going for the win, but he felt like his kicker would nail the extra point…He did not and in comes Glenn, to Jamieson Stadium….
I almost called Glenn, High Point Central earlier, since their top running back Monterious Godfrey was at Central last year and Glenn’s coach, Antwon Stevenson is a former High Point Central Bison player….
We are taking Grimsley over Glenn, Whirlies with the win at Jamieson Stadium, this evening….And don’t forget, you can hear the game on GreensboroSports Radio….
Also on this Friday night we have Ragsdale(6-6) and seeded #3 in the NCHSAA 4-A West bracket, at East Forsyth(10-2), and East is the #2 seed in that West bracket….
Best in the West may be determined by two Greensboro teams, or you could have two Kernersiville teames, or you might have a Greensboro team and a Kernersville team, or a Jamestown/Greensboro team and a Kernersville team…And the later part of that equation, is pretty much what you have already tonight here in the Quarterfinals of the state, and the Semifinals of the region…
Ragsdale at East Forsyth, at Fred Lewis Stadium, over in Kernersville…Ragsdale’s QB Alston Hooker has been hitting on all cylinders in his recent games and last week, the Ragsdale Tigers added ATH Devan Boykin to the offensive backfield and he put up over 200 yards rushing for the Tigers, in their Round Two win over the Mooresville Blue Devils….
Hooker and Boykin can be a very strong hookup…Just have Hooker throw Boykin a swing pass out in the flat, and let Boykin make defenders miss and let him get up field and run as far as he can after the catch….Donovan Platt is a great deep threat for Hooker and Ragsdale also has Josiah Muldowney on the outside and he can catch those Hooker passes too, plus throw in and throw to Carbajal, he has great hands too….
East has Ty Lyles at QB and he is a dual threat and if he has his big back RB Marshall and add in his little backs Robbin Smith and Chaplin, East can be very tough….Mike Gipp, Nasir Parker, Zaymen Taylor, Wesley Misenheimer and Devan Boykin, all will be very busy for Ragsdale on defense on Friday night….
For all four of these teams, the key will be the “D”…How good a job that Grimsley and Ragsdale do stopping Glenn and East will go a very long way in determining if we will see Ragsdale vs. Grimsley next Friday night in the West Regional Final…
In the Glenn at Grimsley game I am taking Grimsley, and in the Ragsdale at East Forsyth game, I am taking East…
The way we see it here, East Forsyth at Grimsley next Friday night….
Picks on the season now at (126-32)…
