College Men’s Basketball Final – #16 Guilford 74, Roanoke 58:Jaylen Gore(Northwest Guilford HS) with 13 pts. and 6 assists to spark Quakers/Tripp Greene(Greensboro Day School) with 12 pts. for Roanoke

SALEM, Va. – Senior center Kyler Gregory (Yadkinville, N.C./Starmount) scored 18 of his game-high 28 points in the second half to power visiting Guilford College past Roanoke College, 74-58, in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) men’s basketball action Wednesday night. He also grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds for his team-leading fourth double-double of the year.

Guilford, ranked 16th in this week’s D3hoops.com Top 25 Poll, won its eighth-straight game, matching the Quakers’ (8-1, 2-0 ODAC) longest winning streak since 2016-17.

Roanoke’s Tripp Greene (Wilkesboro, N.C./Greensboro Day School) and Casey Draper both scored 12 points and combined to shoot 5-for-6 from three-point range in the first half. The Maroons made 8-of-15 from beyond the stripe and shot 50 percent from the floor in the opening frame, which helped them overcome a 22-4 deficit in interior scoring.

The hosts held the lead until the 12-minute mark when a Jaylen Gore (Greensboro, N.C./Northwest Guilford) basket tied the game for the 10th and final time. Gore knotted the score at 52-52 and started a 24-6 run to end the game. Gregory tallied 11 points during the run. Guilford limited Roanoke to 2-for-12 field-goal shooting and forced four turnovers in the final 12:22.

Gore finished with a season-high 13 points and a game-best six assists for the Quakers. The junior point guard did not turn the ball over in 34 minutes. Redshirt-sophomore Jorden Davis (Durham, N.C./Durham Academy (Roanoke)) added 11 points and four boards in his first game against his former team. Freshman Tyler Dearman (Greensboro, N.C./Southern Guilford) chipped in nine points off the bench and Liam Ward added eight points and a season-high seven rebounds. Guilford dominated the glass with a 48-24 rebounding edge that included 22 offensive rebounds. The Quakers finished with a 30-2 advantage in second-chance points and outscored Roanoke in the paint, 48-20.

Draper finished with a team-high 16 points. Greene was held scoreless in the second half and finished with 12 points. Brayden Gault added seven points and a club-best four rebounds off the bench.
