ROME, Ga. The USA South Athletic Conference on Monday afternoon tabbed Methodist’s Garren Dearman(Southern Guilford High School) its men’s basketball athlete of the week following a weekend in which his team-high scoring helped lead the Monarchs to a pair of conference road victories.
The junior registered a career-high 30 points on Sunday at Piedmont College, a total that was elevated by five 3-pointers. Four of his long-range bombs came during a second half in which the Monarchs extended a narrow three-point half-time advantage into a 17-point runaway win.
Defensively, Dearman pulled down three rebounds off Piedmont misses and came away with four steals.
The previous day at Brevard College he finished with a team-best 21 points, hitting 4-of-6 from behind the arc during the 20-point victory.
Each of his four rebounds came off the defensive rim as Methodist cracked 90 points for the first time this season, while shooting 63.2% from the floor — the highest shooting percentage from a Monarchs squad in over a decade.
