East Forsyth opened Central Piedmont 4A Conference play with a sluggish 41-37 win over visiting West Forsyth at Jack Musten Gymnasium in Kernersville Tuesday night. With both teams packed in tight zones, possessions were limited for both teams & scoring opportunities limited as the Eagles ground out their third win in the last six days.
East trailed through much of the second period before a late flurry in the final two minutes of the quarter put its lead to 23-17 at the halftime break. The Eagles extended their lead to as many as 11 (31-20) with 90 seconds left in the third quarter but West chipped away at the deficit, cutting it to four points three different times through the middle of the final period.
A driving jumper by Brion Jones with 1:30 remaining pushed the score to 39-33 & Zyun Reeves hit two free throws with 24 seconds left to seal the win. Jones was the game’s leading scorer (13) and rebounder (10) while Reeves added eight rebounds & eight points. Braelen Morris led the Titans with 10 points & nine rebounds.
East Forsyth returns to the court tomorrow night at home against Mount Airy, who the Eagles defeated 47-36 on the road last week. The Eagles return to CPC action Friday at Glenn.
