Elon Women’s Tennis Falls To Charleston Southern, 5-2, On Sunday

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Elon University women’s tennis fell to Charleston Southern, 5-2, on Sunday, Jan. 12, at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center.

HIGHLIGHTS
Victoria Saldh was the highlight of the match for Elon, picking up a singles win over CSU’s Zoe Cauthen in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2. Saldh also combined with Sofia Edo to defeat Liz Williams and Femcke Van Rensburg, 6-3, for the Phoenix’s lone doubles win on the day.

Olivia Archer earned the Phoenix’s other point on the day, defeating CSU’s Michelle Schmitz in straight sets 6-1, 6-3. Also in singles, Alex Koniaev battled the Bucs’ Anna Marka but fell in three sets 6-2, 4-6, 1-6 in the No. 1 singles slot. Freshman Kianna Rizzolo took CSU senior Liz Williams to three sets, but Williams prevailed 4-6, 6-3, 5-7.

Also in doubles, Alex Koniaev and Uma Nayar were barely outlasted by the Bucs’ tandem of Madalina Man and Luiza Fullana, falling 6-7.

Charleston Southern clinched the victory after winning two out of three doubles matches to earn the overall doubles point, in addition to taking four out of six singles matchups.
