Elon Women’s Tennis Phoenix Wins Home Opener Over North Carolina A&T

ELON, N.C. – Elon University women’s won its home opener, 7-0, against North Carolina A&T on Tuesday, Jan. 14.

With today’s win, the Phoenix moved to 18-0 in the all-time series against the Aggies. Elon was led by Alex Koniaev, who combined with Uma Nayar to earn a doubles win (6-0) over Renata Ruiz and Marlene Estenssoro before defeating Ruiz in straight sets (6-1, 6-3) in singles play.

HIGHLIGHTS
Shauna Galvin picked up the first singles win of her college career on Tuesday, defeating North Carolina A&T’s Robertson 6-0, 6-0 to earn the victory. Galvin also secured her first career doubles win after combining with Olivia Archer to outlast Hamilton and Robertson 6-1.

Also in singles, Kiana Rizzolo and Sofia Edo each picked up wins on the day with Rizzolo defeating Marlene Estenssoro and Edo defeating Nykia Hamilton. Rizzolo and Edo each earned their victories in straight sets 6-0, 6-2 and 6-3, 6-0 respectively.

In doubles play, the Phoenix went a perfect three for three, with Sofia Edo and Victoria Saldh earning the final win by default.
