College Men’s Basketball Final: Guilford 99, Emory & Henry 87/Tyler Dearman(Southern Guilford HS) with 25 points for the Quakers

EMORY, Va.Tyler Dearman(Southern Guilford High School) and Kyler Gregory tied for high point honors with 25 as Guilford College won an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) game at Emory & Henry College, 99-87, on Wednesday evening.

The Quakers point total was the most since a 103-78 win over Roanoke on Feb. 11, 2015. They improved to 12-4 and 4-3 in the league. The Wasps dropped to 3-12 and 0-6 in the ODAC.

A freshman, Dearman shot 9-of-13 from the field and 7-of-9 from beyond the three-point line off the bench. Gregory, a senior, was 11-of-19 from the field and had 10 rebounds.

The visitors led the entire game and got off to a 15-4 start. The Quakers held a 59-41 lead at halftime. A Gregory layup with 7:37 left in regulation gave Guilford its largest lead of the contest at 93-67. The Wasps outscored GC 22-6 the rest of the way for the final margin.

Fourteen Quakers saw action in the game. Redshirt sophomore Jorden Davis contributed 13 points. Sophomore Liam Ward and junior Joah Logan both had double-doubles in the contest. Ward had 11 points and a game-best 12 boards, while Logan scored 11 and grabbed ten rebounds.

EHC had four players score in double figures. Jake Martin had 19 points. He made 7-of-10 shooting and made all five of his three-point attempts. Kevin Grau Rodriguez netted 13 points and he converted all six shots from the charity stripe. Dylan Catron and Colin Molden both contributed 12 points for the Wasps.

For the game, Guilford shot 40-79 (51-percent) to E&H’s 30-70 (43-percent). The Wasps lost the battle of the boards, 32-21. Emory & Henry had 15 three-pointers to Guilford’s 11.

The Quakers play at Randolph-Macon College on Saturday. The ODAC game begins at 4:30 p.m.
