East Forsyth came up short in a battle for a share of first-place in the Central Piedmont 4A Conference, dropping a 62-55 decision to RJ Reynolds Tuesday night on the Demon’s home floor. It was the second narrow defeat for the Eagles to RJR, which took a 67-59 non-conference victory in the Frank Spencer Holiday Classic last month.

East Forsyth led only briefly early (4-2) but never let the Demons out of sight, keeping its deficit to single digits for much of the first half, cutting the RJR lead to one (30-29) at the start of the third quarter. But a 14-4 drought over four minutes midway through that period pushed Reynolds to its biggest lead of the game (49-37).

The Eagles cut that lead in half several times down the stretch but RJR got inside baskets from Tobias Johnson, the game’s leading scorer with 18 points, & Jaben Mars, the game’s leading rebounder with 11, to secure it’s fourth CPC win in five starts.

Mars & Caden Davis added 12 points each for RJR while Jalen Thorns & Zyun Reeves led East in scoring with 14 apiece. Reeves also grabbed nine rebounds & blocked six shots in the Eagles’ loss. East returns to the court Friday night in a CPC contest at West Forsyth. Reynolds hosts Davie County Friday in its Hall of Fame game.
