Elon Track and Field Returns to JDL Fast Track for Camel City Invite

ELON, N.C. – After a two-week hiatus, the Elon University women’s track and field team is back at the JDL Fast Track Complex this weekend, Feb. 7-8, competing at the Camel City Invitational. The meet is scheduled to begin on Friday afternoon at 1 p.m.

About the Field
• The two-day meet is scheduled to have at least one athlete representing these notable schools on the women’s side: Campbell, Charlotte, Davidson, East Tennessee State, High Point, NC State, North Carolina A&T, North Carolina Central, Richmond, Troy, UNCG and Wake Forest.

Last Time Out
• Elon split for meets last weekend, Jan. 31-Feb. 1, with the majority of the team competing at the Liberty Flames Kickoff and select members of the distance contingent racing at the Carolina Challenge at South Carolina.
• At the Carolina Challenge, Senior Melissa Anastasakis and freshman Maria Ahm became the latest members of the team to qualify for the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Indoor Championships. Both athletes qualified in the 3,000-meters as Anastasakis lead the maroon and gold women in the event as the Hillsdale, Ontario, native clocked a personal-best time of 9:42.78 and finished as the runner-up in the race.
• Ahm, making her indoor debut for the Phoenix, was fourth overall in the 3,000-meters with her time of 9:53.69. The Holbæk, Denmark, native also placed in the program’s top-five performance list.
• Elon also had its distance medley relay team punch its ticket to the ECACs. The quartet of Anastasakis, Gabriela Varisco de Oliveira, Anna Twomey and Scolasticah Kemei won its race with a time of 11:57.67 at the Carolina Challenge.
• At the Liberty Flames Invite, the Phoenix saw a few athletes set some new personal-records in their events. Haywood tied for the second-fastest time in school history in the 60-meter dash with her preliminary time of 7.76.
• Tudor set a new indoor-best in the long jump with a leap of 18′ 6.5″ (5.65m) and finished as the runner-up. Burke was third overall with her jump of 17′ 10.75″ (5.45m) while Zee also finished in the top-five with her mark of 17′ 6.25″ (5.34m).

Elon will send some athletes to the Darius Dixon Memorial Invitational hosted by Liberty next weekend, Feb. 14-15, while members of the distance squad travel to the David Hemery Valentine Invite at Boston University.
