College Men’s Basketball Final – Guilford 95, Eastern Mennonite 50:Tyler Dearman(Southern Guilford HS) 16 points and Jaylen Gore(Northwest Guilford HS) with 9 assists for the Quakers

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Senior Kyler Gregory (Yadkinville, N.C./Starmount) scored a game-high 19 points and freshman Tyler Dearman (Greensboro, N.C./Southern Guilford) added 16 in Guilford College’s 95-50 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) basketball win over visiting Eastern Mennonite University Saturday.

Guilford corralled a season-high 25 offensive rebounds, which led to 31 second-chance points. The Quakers (15-7, 7-6 ODAC) enjoyed a 55-24 rebounding edge and yielded only four second-chance points.

The lead changed hands four times in the opening eight minutes, but the Royals went cold for the rest of the half. Guilford outscored Eastern Mennonite, 24-4, over a 10-minute stretch, which contributed to the hosts’ 36-18 halftime lead. Gregory had 10 points during the run on the way to 16 first-half points. Eastern Mennonite made just two-of-12 shots and missed all four three-pointers during the decisive spurt.

The Quakers dashed Eastern Mennonite’s comeback hopes with 10 second-half three-pointers in 20 attempts (50%). Dearman made all three of his shots from beyond the arc as Guilford’s margin grew to as many as 47 points. Both teams substituted liberally and 13 different Quakers registered points in the team’s second-highest scoring output of the season.

Sophomore Liam Ward made 4-of-6 trifectas for Guilford and finished with 14 points, five rebounds, and three assists. His four triples marked both a game- and career-high total. Gregory made 6-of-9 shots from the floor and grabbed a game-best eight rebounds. Jaylen Gore (Greensboro, N.C./Northwest Guilford) finished with seven points, four rebounds and a season- and game-best nine assists. In addition to his 16 points, Dearman contributed four rebounds, four assists, and a career- and game-high four steals in his second start of the season.

Tim Jones led the Royals (5-17, 3-10 ODAC) with 11 points. Teammate D.J. Hill notched 10 points and a club-best six rebounds. Eastern Mennonite shot 19-of-65 (34.5%) from the floor and made only five of 21 three-pointers. The Royals’ 15 turnovers resulted in 24 Guilford points.
