Men’s Basketball Falls On Senior Day To N.C. Wesleyan

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Greensboro College men’s basketball team fell to the Battling Bishops of North Carolina Wesleyan College on Senior Day Tuesday, 76-70.

The Bishops held a 17-7 lead just over seven minutes into the game before Greensboro used a 17-7 run over the next 8:13 to tie the game. Greensboro converted on four of six free-throw attempts to start the run Greyson Collins hit a layup to end the spurt.

On the game-tying layup, Collins also drew a foul and converted the old-fashion three-point play to give the Pride their first lead of the contest. Over the final 2:46 of the half, the two teams traded the lead back and forth before Keyvon Meertins drained a pair of three-pointers in the final 40 seconds of the half to give Greensboro a 36-30 halftime lead.

Following the break, Greensboro was able to maintain their lead for 13 minutes before the Bishops went on a 16-5 run to take a 64-56 lead. Over the remainder of the game, the Pride continued to battle but could not get any closer than a four-point margin and fell by a six-point margin.

Meertins finished with a team-leading 21 points, while Collins had 13 points. Michael Phifer finished with seven points and 11 rebounds.
