Elon Track and Field Closes Out Indoor Regular Season on Saturday

ELON, N.C. – The Elon University women’s track and field team concluded its indoor regular season with athletes competing at meets at the Virginia Tech Challenge and JDL DMR Invitational on Saturday, Feb. 22.

Virginia Tech Challenge
The majority of the Phoenix women’s track and field team competed at the Virginia Tech Challenge inside the Rector Field House. Moira O’Malley won the high jump after clearing the bar at the height of 1.60m.

Aliya Barrows was fourth overall in the 400-meters with a season-best time of 56.97. In the women’s triple jump, Elyse King was eighth with a mark of 10.97m.

Skylar Barthelmes led the Phoenix in the shot put as the senior was fourth overall with a heave 13.45m. Kristine Strazdite was fifth with a throw of 13.14m while Lauryn Carlton was seventh with a mark of 12.41m.

JDL DMR Invitational
At the JDL DMR Invitational at the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, N.C., the Phoenix took the 2-5 positions in the one-mile run. Hannah Preeo was the runner-up with her time of 5:04.82 followed by Anna Twomey with a time of 5:05.92. Sophia Tasselmyer (5:08.20) and Scolasticah Kemei (5:10.21) rounded out the top-five spots for Elon.

Gabriela Varisco de Oliveira was third in the 800-meters with her time of 2:16.62. Stephanie Lair was fifth overall with her time of 2:18.41. Emily Smith also finished in the top-10 with her time of 2:20.35.

Margaret Springer was the runner-up in the 3,000-meters with a time of 10:29.07 while Hannah Miller was sixth overall with a time of 10:45.98.

On Deck
Elon begins the postseason portion of its indoor schedule at the 2020 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Indoor Championships on March 6-8 at Boston University.
