Elon Women’s Tennis Phoenix Wins Fifth Straight With 5-2 Victory Over UNCW

ELON, N.C. – Elon University women’s tennis won its first conference game of the season on Saturday, Feb. 22, after taking down UNCW, 5-2.

“I’m very proud of the team for coming out and winning our first conference match today,” head coach Elizabeth Anderson stated. “We competed hard on every court and generated a lot of positive momentum that we can use moving forward. We are looking forward to playing ECU this coming Friday.”

Following today’s match, the Phoenix moved to 9-4 overall this season and has now won five consecutive matches.

HIGHLIGHTS
Olivia Archer led the way for the Phoenix, taking down Sarah Horn in straight sets, 6-1, 6-0. Archer also combined with Alex Koniaev to defeat Horn and Sarah Merrill 6-1 in doubles play.

Sofi Edo clinched the victory for the Phoenix, defeating Anna Daniels, 6-2, 7-6, to give Elon its fourth point of the match. Additionally, Shauna Galvin and Victoria Saldh each picked up wins for Elon in singles play, defeating Brinley Bell and Rachel Marthinsen respectively.

The tandem of Saldh and Sofia Edo secured the Phoenix’s doubles point with a 6-3 victory over Daniels and Bell on court two.
