“I knew we were going to see a really good Towson team today,” head coach Mike Schrage explained. “I just thought we let them get into a little bit of a rhythm early, and when they’re hitting shots they’re really good. We dug ourselves into a hole early and it was tough to fight out of, but we’ll watch the tape and get better from this.”

THE RUNDOWN
Trailing by 13 with 14:44 remaining in the second half, back-to-back scores by Simon Wright and Hunter Woods sparked a 7-1 Elon burst. Marcus Sheffield capped the run a few moments later with a step-back three over a Towson defender on an assist from Andy Pack. The spurt helped the Phoenix trim the Tigers’ lead down to 50-43 with 13:05 left to play.

From there, Towson went on a 14-3 run of their own to keep Elon at bay. Towson’s run lasted just under five minutes and gave them a 64-46 advantage with 8:19 remaining in the contest. Elon continued to battle to the end but came up 13 points short in the loss.

Towson came out of the gates on fire, jumping out to an early 12-4 lead with 15:30 left to play in the opening half. The Tigers pushed their lead to as much as 15 before the Phoenix battled back. With the score sitting at 26-11 with 11:32 to play in the first half, a quick layup by Chuck Hannah followed by a knock-down three for Wright brought Elon to within ten. Moments later, Pack found some open space in the corner and drilled a long two that cut the deficit down to eight. Woods finished off the run by knocking down a pair of free throws that made the score 26-20 with just over seven minutes remaining before the break.
