Elon WLAX Phoenix Outlasts Davidson, 11-10

ELON, N.C. – Fueled by a career-high five goals from Sara Bouwman, the Elon University women’s lacrosse team recorded an 11-10 win over Davidson on Saturday, Feb. 29.

THE RUNDOWN
Two goals from Bouwman and one from Mae McGlynn gave the Phoenix an early 3-0 advantage against the Wildcats with 20:48 on the clock. Davidson answered with a 3-0 run of their own tie the game, but the teams continued to go back-and-forth for the remainder of the half. Elon held a 6-5 lead going into halftime.

The Phoenix brought its lead up to four with a 4-1 run to open the second half (10-6). Blair Kessler got things going with a goal less than two minutes into the half (28:13), followed by a goal from Bouwman and two from McGlynn. After a Davidson goal, Cate Mackel scored the final Elon goal on the way to the win.

HIGHLIGHTS
Aside from Bouwman, McGlynn was the other Elon player to score three goals for a hat trick. Mackel chipped in two and Kessler added one to round out the scoring with Mackel’s two goals all coming on free position shots. Campbell Armstrong collected a career-high nine draw controls while Quinn Daly tallied a pair of caused turnovers and Carleigh Goldstein recorded a team best in ground balls (4).

Grace Fahey led the Wildcat offense with three goals and one assist for four points, while Natalie Junior picked up a game-best five caused turnovers.

NOTES
-Elon won 17-of-23 draw controls in the game.
-Both teams tallied 16 turnovers over the course of the game.
-The Phoenix completed all 17 of its clears, while the Wildcats went 19-of-23.
-Through four games, Daly leads the CAA with 11 caused turnovers on the season, averaging 2.75 per game.
