#10 NC State Title Game Bound at ACC Tournament after Victory Over Boston College in Semis
Wolfpack set to face Florida State in the 2020 ACC Tournament championship game on Sunday at noon
GREENSBORO, N.C. – For the first time in 10 seasons, the 10th-ranked NC State women’s basketball team (27-4) punched its ticket to the ACC Tournament championship game with an 82-75 semifinals victory over the Boston College Eagles (20-12) Saturday afternoon inside the Greensboro Coliseum.
The Wolfpack advances to the title game for the 15th time in program history, the first time under the leadership of head coach Wes Moore and the first time since the 2010 ACC Tournament. NC State will take on third-seeded and 22nd-ranked Florida State on Sunday at noon, and the championship game will be televised nationally on ESPN2.
Three members of the Pack scored in double figures. Jada Boyd came off the bench to tally 16, tying the most points that she has scored against a conference opponent in her rookie season. The freshman forward shot an efficient 7-of-10 from the floor and also hauled in a game-leading eight rebounds. Aislinn Konig also posted 16 points with four three pointers, and Elissa Cunane scored 11.
NC State took control of the game against Boston College in the second quarter. After an evenly-matched first period of play, the Wolfpack outscored the Eagles 25-6 in the second quarter to build up a halftime lead of 18 points (48-30). The Pack’s 48 first-half points were its most posted in the opening 20 minutes of a game this season.
The Wolfpack also did a tremendous job of clamping down defensively on the Eagles in the second quarter. Boston College shot 78.6 percent (11-of-14) in the first 10 minutes of the game before NC State held it to just 1-of-10 from the field in the second period.
After building up its comfortable halftime lead, NC State led by as much as 22 points on multiple occasions in the second half. Boston College showed no quit and drew within seven (82-75) with nine seconds remaining, but it was too late for the Eagles to complete a comeback.
In addition to Boyd’s performance off the bench, the Pack outscored the Eagles in that category with 34 bench points compared to Boston College’s 15. NC State also turned 16 Eagle turnovers into 22 points.
The Pack will turn its attention to preparing for Sunday’s tournament finale.
