Elon MBB: Burford Earns Second Consecutive Rookie of the Week; Wooten Tabbed As Honorable Mention

ELON, N.C. – The Colonial Athletic Association has announced that Elon University men’s basketball guard Darius Burford was named the CAA Rookie of the Week on Monday, March 1.

The freshman out of Bolingbrook, Ill. averaged 18 points, 4.5 rebounds, 3.5 steals and 2.5 assists in a 2-0 week for Elon. Against William & Mary, Burford dropped 13 points, six rebounds and four steals to help lead the Phoenix to a 19-point victory. Burford followed that up with a team-high 23 points, three rebounds, three assists and three steals performance to close out the regular season against UNCW.

For his play, Burford garnered the third CAA Weekly Honor of his collegiate career and won CAA Rookie of the Week for the second week in a row.

Guard Kris Wooten also earned an honorable mention for Player of the Week after hitting the game-winning three in Elon’s victory over UNCW. Wooten finished the game with 12 points on 4-of-6 shooting from beyond the arc in his first game since January 3.

This marks the third time this season the Phoenix has taken home a Player of the Week honorable mention, with Wooten joining Hunter McIntosh (Feb. 15) and Ikenna Ndugba (Feb. 22) as honorees.
