Greensboro College’s Cheyanne Cox Earns Second-Straight USA South Pitcher of the Week Honors

ROME, Ga.—Greensboro College’s Cheyanne Cox claimed her second-consecutive USA South Athletic Conference (USA South) Softball Pitcher of the Week honors earlier today as announced by the USA South.

Cox (2-1) struck out the side in the bottom of the second inning in game one against William Peace University. William Peace only reached third base three times in the game-one win. The Pacers could only muster one run against Cox in the bottom of the fifth inning on a double with two outs. Her eleven strikeouts is a season-high. Cox threw her second-straight complete game in the 6-1 win at William Peace.

Early in the season, Cox’s 2.21 earned-run average stands third in the USA South as does her 23 strikeouts. Her strikeouts per seven innings average of 8.47 stands at the top of the conference. Her 19 innings thrown is the seventh-most in the league.

The Pride claimed a non-conference doubleheader sweep of William Peace Saturday afternoon. Greensboro claimed the first contest, 6-1, and rallied to win the nightcap, 5-4. Greensboro has won four consecutive games, all on the road, as Cox has led the Pride to two victories in the opening contest of each doubleheader.

Cox earned Pitcher of the Week in the USA South last week after throwing a complete-game four-hitter at Lynchburg February 21st. Cox struck out nine batters in the effort against the Hornets, three shy of her career-high while walking three. Cox faced five batters higher than the minimum in her effort.

Cox and the Pride look forward to their home opener Thursday afternoon, hosting Randolph College for a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m. at Greensboro’s Latham Park just north of downtown Greensboro.
