CLINTON, S.C. — The High Point University men’s soccer team won its fourth straight game with a 3-0 victory over Presbyterian College on Wednesday (March 24) night. MD Myers recorded a brace for the fifth times through eight games. Myers scored the opening goal of the contest in the 12th minute and the last goal of the game in the 80th minute. Josh Dubost added the second goal off of a corner from Mason Marcey. The shutout marked the fifth shutout of the season for Holden Trent and company.

“First half was a little bit slow out of the gates, just the tempo of the game, then we took a little bit of time to get in a rhythm and start creating chances and get into the flow of the game,” Coach Zach Haines after the 3-0 win. “Once we did we found the goal and didn’t really concede much in the way of chances and then in the second half we turned it up. We were outstanding in every phase of the game, we created tons of chances, scored good goals, and were dominant with and without the ball. Incredibly proud of the second half, how we grew into the game but overall anytime you can come to Presbyterian and get a convincing result you’re super happy.”

The Blue Hose started the game in sitting deep in their own end with intentions of frustrating the 20th ranked Panthers. PC and HPU were locked at zeros through ten minutes of play as the feeling out process looked like it would continue. The Panthers dominated possession through the first ten minutes of the game. In the 12th minute, Sebastian Chalbaud set up for a free-kick alongside Alessandro Sobacchi, Sobacchi faked that he was taking it then Chalbaud played a beautiful ball into the box that Myers finished and headed in to give the Panthers a one-goal advantage.

PC tried to find the equalizer in the first, receiving most of its quality chances off of corners, the Panther defense was able to neutralize and protect the one goal lead.

In the second half in the 55th minute, the Panthers earned a corner kick opportunity. Marcey confidently jogged to the corner flag and whiped in a ball in perfect position for Dubost to finish. The Dubost header put the Panthers in front 2-0 providing some space for the Purple & White.

High Point found the exclamation mark in the 80th minute as Marcey picked up his second assist of the night as he helped Myers to his tenth goal of the season. Myers has now scored ten goals in eight games. Myers entered the contest third in the nation in goals per game. He becomes one of three players in the nation to score at least ten goals. Myers is currently tied for first in-game-winning goals in the county with four.

High Point has won four games in a row and is currently 5-0 in the Big South, HPU travels to USC Upstate on Saturday at 5:00 PM for a highly anticipated contest between the Big South’s top two teams.
