Elon Women’s Soccer Clinches CAA Championship Berth with 2-0 Win Over William & Mary

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. — The Elon University women’s soccer team ended its regular season on a high note as it recorded a two-goal win (2-0) against William & Mary on April 10 to secure a Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Championship berth for the second consecutive season.

BOX SCORE

“This was another solid and disciplined performance from us away against a good William & Mary team,” said head coach Neil Payne. “I obviously couldn’t be more proud of the entire group. We knew a good result going into this game would send us to the conference semifinal for the second year running, so it was important that the team showed real intent from beginning of the game. We did that and we were rewarded with two very good goals from Sarah (Bevington) and Beky (Myers).”

THE RUNDOWN
-Both goals came in the first half. The first came in the 13th minute when Bevington found the back of the net from 15 yards out. Molly Mahoney and Carson Jones were given assists.
-Approximately eight minutes later, Abby Fusca connected with Myers, who scored the final goal of the day from distance.
-Despite William & Mary outshooting the Phoenix 11-2 in the second half, the maroon and gold held the Tribe scoreless for its third shutout of the season.

NOTES
-Both Bevington’s and Myers’s goals were their first of the season.
