We are going to miss the playoffs because another team had to quarantine and then decided not to play us. That team played everyone else in our conference. We beat the 2 seed in our conference last night, but they have a higher winning %. Not fair to the kids.

Your Southeast Guilford Falcons finished the regular season at 6-1 and capture its third straight Mid-Piedmont 3A Conference Championship. Let the NCHSAA Playoffs begin. #SoutheastBuilt

No. 1 seeds at the 4A level with home field advantage throughout:

    4AA East: Apex Friendship
    4AA West: Hough

    4A East: Cardinal Gibbons
    4A West: Grimsley

  4. Covid is not fair to many but bright side is the kids got a chance to play and from all reports I think everyone came out on the safe side. Hope it continues this way.

  5. The EGHS and SGHS split was likely due to school attendance numbers not winning %. EGHS is 3AA size, NGHS is 3AA size, SGHS is 3A size. Head to head EGHS beat SGHS but likely was not a spot in 3AA for 2 loss teams like EGHS or NGHS. 3A probably had spots open. Dudley is #8 seed with only 1 loss. So I think school attendance and the east/west split was the factor. Like ballout said we at least had a season to play

  6. @Chuckie Brown

It doesn’t work like that. The teams that qualify for the playoffs are determined first (16 total in the East and 16 total in the West per classicication) and then they are divided into A and AA. Southern had a higher CONFERENCE win percentage than Eastern, even after Fridays game. That conference also had two automatic qualifiers.

  7. @Details

    Thanks for the info.

What about 1A East? The 1 and 2 seeds have the worst records in the bracket. I can understand those teams making the playoffs as automatic qualifiers in split division conferences but the 4 seed has best record and %. Seeds 3 thru 8 have better records and % than 1 and 2. The seeding seems flawed even with Covid considerations.

  8. @Chuckie Brown

They took all of the conference winners and did a random draw to put them on the seeding the line. After all of the conference winners were placed the second place automatic qualifies were placed and then finally any automatic third place qualifiers and any wild card teams. Seeds don’t really mean much other than more home games.
