GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Randolph-Macon pair of Sydney Koch and Gracyn Draney recorded 12 kills apiece, helping the Yellow Jackets earn their fifth win of the season on Guilford’s senior day that recognized the contributions of Carson Evans, Khaira Bolden, Bryce Smith, Amanda Rabey and Adison Needham. The Yellow Jackets capped off the victory with wins by scores of 25-17, 25-10 and 25-22.
Cam Blankenship was the top offensive contributor for the Quakers with six kills, while Evans dished out a team-best 14 assists. Bruce Smith came through with seven digs, followed by Blankenship’s six, while Evans, Rabey and Vanessa Johnson had one assisted block each.
Randolph-Macon combined for a .289 attack percentage in the opening set, led by five kills from Koch and four from Jordan Allan-Davis, as it grabbed the first set of the match. Separated by two points for a bulk of the set, the Yellow Jackets capitalized on three kills in a seven-point stretch to forge in front 21-16. A block by Rabey kept Guilford within striking distance, 22-17, but three unanswered points by Randolph-Macon resulted in the victory.
The Yellow Jackets stormed out to a 10-0 lead in the second set and never looked back. With Emma Young in serve, along with a .414 attack percentage highlighted by five kills from Gracyn Draney, Randolph-Macon had a dominating performance.
The offensive momentum established in the second set carried over into the third for the Yellow Jackets who opened up a 17-9 lead in the third. Needham drove a kill past the defense to put the Quakers into double figures and Lydia Sanders in serve. Three straight attack errors, a service ace and kills from Needham and Kaitlyn Kelly trimmed the Randolph-Macon to 18-14. Guilford eventually trimmed the margin to two, 23-21, following a service ace by Evans, but the Yellow Jackets tallied two of the final three points for the win.
