Greensboro College’ Chase Henderson(Northern Guilford HS) Named USA South Men’s Lacrosse Rookie of the Week

ROME, Ga.—-Greensboro College’s Chase Henderson (Greensboro, N.C./Northern Guilford) claimed his second USA South Athletic Conference (USA South) Men’s Lacrosse Rookie of the Week honor earlier today as the conference announced their weekly awards.

Henderson comes off a week where the midfielder was 18-for-27 in faceoffs in a 16-7 win over Methodist, one win shy of his career-high in wins. His winning percentage (.667) was .041 short of his career-high set in the first start of his career on February 21 against Birmingham Southern. His 12 ground balls are a new career-high for the freshman midfielder. Henderson picked up ground balls on 11 of his own 18 faceoff wins in the victory over the Monarchs. Henderson added his second-career goal after his 12th ground ball of the game off a turnover.

Henderson’s .636 faceoff winning percentage stands second in the USA South while his 45 ground balls place the freshman fifth in the league. After tying his career-high in ground balls twice (nine), the faceoff midfielder shattered his best ground ball mark after tying the previous best in the March 24 victory against William Peace. The 12 ground balls are also the most for any Pride player this Spring.

The honor is the second for Henderson this season. Henderson collected USA South Rookie of the Week honors March 29 after he posted 17 faceoff wins and nine ground balls in the March 24 victory over William Peace. The freshman has started all but one contest for the Pride and has taken over 20 faceoffs in five of the Pride’s seven contests. In those contests, his faceoff winning percentage has not dipped below .600.

Henderson and the Pride (7-1) are off to their best start since 2009. The Pride returns to action Wednesday for a key USA South East Division matchup at Pfeiffer University at 4 p.m.
