Elon Men’s Basketball Announces The Signing Of Torrence Watson

ELON, N.C. – Elon University men’s basketball and head coach Mike Schrage announced the signing of University of Missouri transfer Torrence Watson on Friday, April 16.

“Recruiting a transfer can be a much quicker process,” Schrage began. “With our program it is especially important that we can know him and trust him. And that’s Torrence Watson. I first met Torrence five years ago and am so excited for him and his family to now join ours here at Elon. He is a talented and versatile perimeter player who can add to our group in a lot of ways both on and off the court. I appreciate him being open to coming to North Carolina with the support of his parents and high school coach. Please welcome Torrence and his parents – Terrence and Kim – to Elon!”

A 6-5 guard out of St. Louis Mo., Watson averaged 4.9 ppg and 1.2 rpg in three years at Missouri. As a freshman, Watson posted career-highs in points (7.1), rebounds (1.6) and minutes (22.8) in 32 appearances for the Tigers. As a sophpomore in 2019-20, Watson scored a career-high 24 points behind a Missouri program-record eight three pointers against Chicago State. This past season, Watson’s best game came against LSU, when he dropped nine points on 3-of-6 shooting in 14 minutes.

While in high school under coach Mike Potsou, Watson averaged an area-best 31.2 ppg, adding 6.7 rpg and 2.6 apg en route to being named the Missouri Gatorade Player of the Year. The four-time Missouri Basketball Coaches Association All-State selection added three 50-point outings as a senior at Whitfield High School in 2017-18. Watson also broke Whitfield’s school-record for all-time points (2,755) and points in a season (893).
