HARRISONBURG, Va. – The Guilford women’s lacrosse team received four goals each from the tandem of McCaine Brandt and Audrey Helfenbein as the Quakers claimed an 18-6 win over Eastern Mennonite on Saturday, April 17th.
Joining Brandt and Helfenbein with multi-goal performances were Nia Gill and Kylie Horn, who tallied three each, and Maggie Hartnett, who drove home three goals. Brandt added a game-high six assists, while Helfenbein and Alli Earwood notched three assists each.
Grace Moore came through with two assist for the Quakers, who evened their record at 1-1 on the season under first-year head coach Lottie Meadows.
Kersten Daneau (1-1) picked up the win in goal for Guilford making nine saves on 15 shots. Her counterpart, Arianna Nixon (1-6) faced 28 shots on the day and made just 10 saves.
Horn netted the first goal of the day for the Quakers at 28:54, but it was a strike by Morgan Tricarico that evened the score at one-all less than a minute later. Guilford scored the next four unanswered goals, as Helfenbein, Gill, Earwood and Hartnett found the back of the net, making for a 5-1 lead.
A second goal by the Royals, this time from Meghan Hickey, trimmed the lead to 5-2. Horn netted a man-up goal and Brandt added an unassisted strike to extend the Quaker lead to 7-2 at 15:11. Just over 20 seconds later, Hickey struck again for the Quakers, slicing the deficit to four.
Guilford netted five man-up goals over the final 13:48 of the opening half to take a 12-3 lead into the intermission. Gill scored two of those five goals, while Helfenbein, Brandt and Horn netted one each.
Tricarico opened the second half scoring with a free position goal, making for a 12-4 Guilford lead, before the Quakers notched four consecutive goals, including two front Brandt, to move in front 16-4.
The final two Quaker goals came inside the last three minutes, from Hartnett and Helfeinbein, making for the 12-goal difference.
The Quakers return to action on Wednesday, April 21st against Lynchburg, and follow with a contest against Randolph on April 22nd.
