Greensboro College Drops Third Game of Baseball Series to Pfeiffer

GREENSBORO, N.C.—Pfeiffer University’s Austin Morton and Seth Grice collected three RBI a piece as Greensboro College dropped a Sunday afternoon USA South Athletic Conference (USA South) contest to Pfeiffer, 12-3.

Pfeiffer posted six runs in the top of the second inning with five of the six RBI coming from Grice and Morton.

The Pride (9-15, 1-8 USA South) countered in the bottom of the third inning with a three-run rally to get back into the game. Brayden King led off the inning with a triple to start the comeback bid. Michael Garvey Jr. (Oak Ridge, N.C./Northwest Guilford) walked to follow the King at-bat and advanced to second base on a wild pitch. With one out, Cameron Peters (Greensboro, N.C./Grimsley) brought King home on a sacrifice fly. Adam Weber added to the rally with a RBI-double to right field on his first at-bat of the game. Scotty McGuire capped the rally with a two-out RBI single as the Pride clawed back.

Pfeiffer posted a three-run rally in the top of the sixth frame as the Falcons secured two of their three runs with one-out in the inning. Pfeiffer posted a run in each of the eighth and ninth innings as the Falcons secured the win.

Garvey (two-for-three) and McGuire (two-for-five) were the Pride’s two batters with multiple hits on the afternoon.

Morton led Pfeiffer with a four-for-six effort with a home run and three RBI. Bryan Kowalski finished three-for-five with a triple.

Cole Cooper (1-2) took the loss for the Pride in a two-inning start where he struck out one batter.

Nathan Ray (2-1) claimed the win for Pfeiffer in a five-inning start where he struck out four and walked three.

The Pride return to action Wednesday for a 2 p.m. USA South doubleheader with Mary Baldwin University.
