Pfeiffer Breaks Greensboro’s Heart in Extra Innings in Baseball Doubleheader Sweep

GREENSBORO, N.C.—Pfeiffer’s Brady Parker hit a two-RBI double to break a 6-6 tie in the top of the 13th inning of game two as Greensboro College dropped a Saturday USA South Athletic Conference (USA South) doubleheader over Pfeiffer. The Falcons took game one, 6-2, and the nightcap, 8-6, in 13 innings.

Pfeiffer did most of their game-one damage in the top of the third inning as they posted a three-run rally as part of a string of four unanswered runs to start the contest. Austin Morton started the rally with a two-RBI double down the left field line. The Pride fought back in the next half-inning as Braxton Rupp and Scotty McGuire teamed up to connect on back-to-back RBI-singles that cut the Falcons’ lead in half. Pfeiffer posted one run in the sixth and eighth innings to secure the win.

A Cory Lackey RBI-single started Pfeiffer in the top of the second inning of game two. However, the Pride would mount a stretch of six unanswered runs from the bottom of the second through the end of the fourth inning. Five different Pride batters posted RBI in the stretch as McGuire earned his second RBI of the day in the bottom of the third inning. Pfeiffer mounted a five-run comeback in the seventh and eighth innings to force extra baseball. With two outs in the top of the 13th innings, Parker connected on a two-RBI double as Pfeiffer took game two in extra innings.

Michael Garvey Jr. (Oak Ridge, N.C./Northwest Guilford) tallied three hits for the Pride and notched the Pride’s lone multi-hit effort in game one. Cameron Peters (Greensboro, N.C./Grimsley) hit three-for-five in the second contest with two doubles. Alexander Morales hit three-for-nine over both games. McGuire was the lone Pride batter to collect multiple RBI over both contests in his two-hit afternoon.

Hunter Curtis (0-2) took the game-one loss for the Pride in a four-inning effort where he struck out two and walked one. Jared Cenal earned the game-two start in a six and one-third innings effort where he fanned five. Jake Baldini (1-3) took the game-two loss after a six-inning relief stint where he struck out three and walked four.

John Owen (1-0) took the game-one win for Pfeiffer in a seven-inning effort where he struck out five. Dakota Caughey (1-0) took the game-two win in a five-inning relief effort where struck out three and walked one.
