Guilford’s Gregory Recognized as ODAC Men’s Tennis Player of the Week

FOREST, Va. – After helping the Guilford men’s tennis team to a pair of wins over ODAC foes Hampden-Sydney and Bridgewater last week, which ran the Quakers’ winning streak to four straight matches, senior Elijah Gregory was named as ODAC Men’s Tennis Player of the Week on Monday, April 19th.

Gregory, a senior from Advance, N.C., helped the Quakers to a 2-1 week in which he went a combined 6-0 between singles and doubles play. His efforts helped Guilford to a pair of ODAC wins to keep them in the hunt at the top of the league table.

Gregory and doubles partner Joe Horne posted a trio of wins from the top flight. That began with an 8-3 triumph over Tyler Brice and Andrew Donelson in the Quakers’ 9-0 at Hampden-Sydney. The duo earned an 8-2 victory over Canon Second and Nick Kiser in a 7-2 victory over Bridgewater.

Gregory and Horne then earned an 8-4 result over Trent Harner and Coleman Baker in GC’s non-conference loss to Methodist, 6-3. Gregory’s singles victories against H-SC and BC came from the No. 3 position. He defeated H-SC’s Bryson Alley, 6-0, 6-3, and topped BC’s Kiser 6-0, 6-2. He moved to the second-seed spot against Methodist and posted a 6-1, 6-4 win over Henry Murray.

Guilford completes the 2021 regular season at Randolph-Macon on Saturday, April 24th. For more information on Guilford men’s tennis check out www.guilfordquakers.com.
