HPU Track Recaps Virginia Challenge

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The High Point University women’s track and field team had a record-setting weekend in Charlottesville as several Panthers rewrote history and etched brand new marks into the Panther record books. Letizia Jessica Marsico and Alicia Dawson set school records for the second straight week. Dawson outdid her performance from a weekend ago as on Saturday (April 18) she jumped 12.50m in the triple jump surpassing her performance of 11.99m from last week. The freshman Marsico continues to improve each week and she does so at a record-breaking pace setting yet another High Point school record in the shot put with a mark of 13.48m.

Zoe Geis continues to shine in her fifth year as a Panther as she set a new personal best in the steeplechase running 10:13.41 and finishing second amongst an elite field. Her time of 10:13.41 is the 32nd fastest time in the nation. Famke Heinst also ran in this race and finished with a season-best time of 10:14.23 which is the 34th fastest time in the country.

Olive Allen finished with a personal best time of 4:30.25 in the 1500m as the streak of High Point personal bests continued for the High Point distance women.

Jordan Morrison seems to set a personal best every time she competes this season, that streak continued for her in the 400m hurdles as she ran a personal best time of 1.00.66. This time shot Morrison in the national spotlight as this is the 83rd fastest time in the nation.

Nyile Facey finished third in the women’s 100m hurdles finishing with a time of 14.12 while also running a season-best time of 1:01.87 in the women’s 400m hurdles.

In pole vault for HPU, the Horn Sisters finished third and fourth in the invite portion of pole vault this weekend in Charlottesville. Sydney Horn finished third with a mark of 4.16m. While her sister Mackenzie Horn finished fourth with a mark of 4.06m.

Marsico broke her record in the shot put with a mark of 13.48m and in the discus she finished 11th with a mark of 46.07m.

Dawson is keeping her momentum going building off a school record-breaking mark last week. Dawson jumped a school-record mark of 12.50m in the triple jump while finishing sixth in the long jump with a mark of 6.06m.

Panthers Perform Well in Charlottesville; Van Niekerk Sets School Record Again

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The High Point University men’s track and field team had a Saturday full of personal best performances while Chris Van Niekerk had a record-setting day in the discus.

Van Niekerk set a school record in the discus with a throw of 54.91m finishing eighth out of 19. In the shot put he finished sixth with a mark of 17.49m.

Terris Burton III set a personal best in the 400m hurdles as he finished with a time of 52.54. Freddie Allen continues to jump well in Purple & White as he set a personal best at UVA with a jump of 7.57m in the long jump.

Larry Coaxum also set a personal best in the long jump with a mark of 6.99m. While also setting a personal best in the triple jump with a mark of 14.17m.

Paul Gore finished sixth in the 200m with a time of 21.42. Gore also finished fifth in the men’s 100m with a time of 10.66. Deron Dudley finished right behind gore in the 100m with a time of 10.67 and placed sixth.

In the men’s 800m Siro Pina Cardona neared his season-best and finished at UVA with a time of 1:50.88. In the men’s 5000 Austen Cave set a new personal best with a time of 14:31.57. Along with personal bests for Ian Miller and Hunter Steinau. Miller finished with a time of 14:55.82 and Steinau finished with a PR time of 14:54.41.
