Yankees GM Brian Cashman backs manager Aaron Boone despite 5-10 start

New York Yankees star infielder D.J. LeMahieu admitted after Sunday’s loss to the Tampa Bay Rays that he felt “personally frustrated” by the team’s 5-10 record that has the Bronx Bombers in the basement of the American League standings.
General manager Brian Cashman revealed while speaking with reporters on Monday he understands the Yankees are off to a “really disappointing” start but that he still has faith in manager Aaron Boone and hitting coach Marcus Thames turning things around.
“I’ve got a lot of trust in the people we have,” Cashman said, per Joon Lee of ESPN. “I’ve seen them work a lot of magic along the way. … We’re not reactive. I don’t see us reacting to not believing in the staff we have, and the players we have either.”
Cashman added that he believes New York’s bats will eventually heat up.
“We trust our players and their abilities and we trust over the course of time that it will, as it normally does, correct itself with a lot more games under the belt,” he explained.
The Yankees haven’t endured such a slow start to a campaign since they tallied a 5-10 mark in 1997. Cashman noted that he won’t overreact to a 15-game stretch with so much of the season ahead of the club.
“Change doesn’t happen without a great deal of thought and effort and reason behind it, and we’re not reactive,” he said. “And so I don’t see us reacting to how to shake the roster up too quickly and I don’t see us reacting to not believing in the staff that we have and the players that we have either.
“That’s the message to our players: ‘Hey man, we do believe in you. We know what you’re capable of. This is a bad stretch, we’re going to get through this together.'”
