Seven HPU WLAX Panthers Score in Win Over Gardner-Webb

HIGH POINT, N.C. – The High Point women’s lacrosse team defeated the Gardner-Webb Runnin’ Bulldogs, 17-4. The Panthers were simply dominating over the Runnin’ Bulldogs. High Point remains undefeated in Big South conference play. Abby Hormes ended the day with four goals and now has 63 goals on the season.

“I thought today was a really great reflection of how our team is right now,” Coach Lyndsey Boswell said after the 17-4 win over GWU. “We had a great team win, everyone got involved, everyone got on the field so we are always happy when that happens especially at home.”

The Panthers got off to a flying start scoring three goals in the first eight minutes. Goals from Kay Rosselli and two from Emma Genovese got the Panthers rolling. Jill Rall made a brilliant diving save to deny Gardner Webb their first goal.

High Point was in control at the beginning of the game. The Panthers controlled possession and were clinical in their chances. Katie Hormes scored with 16 minutes left in the half. Katie Hormes ran past 3 defenders before burying it in the bottom of the goal. Mena Loescher also added to the lead with a goal with 15 minutes to play.

Rachel Foster got her 22nd goal of the season in the first half. A beautiful bit of buildup play and High Point continued their scoring run. Katie Hormes added a second for herself before her sister, Abby Hormes started her scoring night with 11 minutes to go in the half. Loescher also added another to her goal count.

Genovese added a third to her evening while the Panthers were a man up. Abby Hormes got her second of the night and her 61st goal of the season. Soon after, Foster added two more goals to her tally. Julia Nicastro came off the bench to get her first assists of the season. Nicastro would finish the night with four assists in total. High Point went into the break with a 13-1 lead.

Gardner Webb opened the scoring in the second half. However, the Panthers quickly answered. Rosselli got her second of the night to extend the Panthers’ lead further. Abby Hormes added 2 more goals to her overall record in the second half. She now has 63 goals making her the second-highest goal scorer in the nation. Minutes later, Liz Meister got her first goal of the season. Meister’s goal would be the last for the Panthers. As High Point finished the day defeating Gardner Webb, 17-4.

High Point will aim to remain undefeated in the Big South regular season as they travel to Presbyterian on Saturday, the last game before the Big South Tournament begins. High Point is looking to win it’s fourth consecutive Big South Tournament title.
