Davis Miller Posts Six Points as Greensboro College Men’s Lacrosse Downs Methodist, 13-6

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.—Davis Miller led the Pride with six points as Greensboro College claimed a Wednesday evening USA South Athletic Conference (USA South) victory over Methodist University, 13-6.

The Pride (10-2, 6-2 USA South) jumped to an 8-0 advantage through the first quarter and half of the second period. The first of Greensboro’s offensive runs came in the first 3:50 of the contest as Spencer Kontoulas (Greensboro, N.C./Northern Guilford) scored the game’s first goal 2:48 into the game. Miller collected the first of his two man-up goals at the 11:40 mark from Austin Abourjilie (Greensboro, N.C./Northwest Guilford).

Miller’s man-up goal at the 11:44 mark of the second quarter began a string of three-straight goals for the senior attacker. His third goal came 3:28 later in the quarter as the Pride claimed an 8-0 lead. After two straight goals from the Monarchs, Miller collected his fifth goal of the game with 2:00 left in the period from Chase Henderson (Greensboro, N.C./Northern Guilford) as the Pride extended their lead, 9-2.

Methodist held the Pride to just one goal in the third quarter as the Monarchs narrowed the lead in the period on a Hunter Vaughan goal at the 9:57 mark of the period. Methodist closed the period sparking a stretch of three-unanswered goals beginning with 13 seconds left in the third quarter. Carter Favreau’s man-up goal with 10:30 left in the fourth quarter capped the rally. Dominic Scali netted two goals in response for the Pride in the closing minutes for the Pride, with his first goal coming on the man-up with 3:01 remaining as the Pride held the lead late and earned the win.

Miller tallied five goals, tying a career-high, and one assist while adding two ground balls. Scali finished with three goals, a ground ball, and a caused turnover. William Beyer (Greensboro, N.C./Northern Guilford) added one goal and three assists with three ground balls. Kontoulas and Ethan Pierce added a goal and two assists apiece.

Christoper Stallings (10-2) took the win for the Pride in net, posting 14 saves. Jackson Bulkin (1-1) took the loss for Methodist in a nine-save effort.

The Pride finished the regular season as the second-seed in the USA South East Division, earning a spot in the USA South Men’s Lacrosse Tournament. Greensboro awaits the pairings in the tournament, which the conference will announce later.
