Jerrion Dukes in Top-Ten as Greensboro College Stands Third After 27 Holes of USA South Championship

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C.—-Greensboro College’s Jerrion Dukes carded a first-round five-over-par to claim a top-ten spot individually as the Pride stands in a tie for third place after 27-holes of the 54-hole USA South Athletic Conference Championship at Benvenue Country Club. Due to Saturday’s rain forecast, the three-day event is now a two-day event with the back-nine of the second round concluding tomorrow.

Dukes posted the Pride’s low score for the first round with a five-over-par 77. The sophomore birdied the par-five, 547-yard fourth hole after a tough start to his round. Dukes caught fire to start the back-nine as the sophomore carded three straight birdies on the tenth, eleventh, and twelfth holes. Dukes’ birdie on the par-four, 347-yard twelfth hole was the only birdie for the Pride through the first 18 holes. Dukes is one of three Pride golfers at four-over-par through the first nine holes of the second round. Through 27 holes, Dukes sits in a tie for ninth-place with a 27-hole score of nine-over-par.

Davis Reynolds and Zane Smith each carded a six-over-par 78 to tie for the Pride’s second-lowest first-round score. Reynolds also carded a birdie on the par-five fourth hole and rounded his front-nine effort with a birdie on the par-four, 374-yard seventh hole. Smith’s birdies came on the back-nine as he posted a birdie on the par-four, 368-yard eleventh hole, and the par-four, 345-yard 16th hole. Reynolds and Smith stand in a tie for 13th place individually.

The Pride stands in a tie for third through 27 holes at 41-over-par with Averett University. Greensboro stands two strokes ahead of Huntingdon College, ranked third in the country. The Pride stands seven shots away from second-place Methodist University and 12 strokes off of Piedmont College for the top spot on the leaderboard.

Tomorrow’s action begins with the final nine holes of the second round followed by the final round of the USA South Athletic Conference Championship.
