The top junior in the state of North Carolina is attending UNC football’s spring game.

Five-star 2022 Grimsley defensive tackle Travis Shaw(Grimsley High School) will be in Chapel Hill on Saturday/TODAY for the sold-out scrimmage, as first reported Monday by Brian Dohn of 247Sports. Shaw included UNC among his top 13 schools last September alongside programs such as Auburn, Clemson, Georgia and Ohio State.

Since NCAA Division I schools remain in a recruiting dead period until June 1, Shaw – the No. 1 junior in the state, the No. 2 defensive tackle in his class and the No. 9 overall recruit in his class, per 247Sports composite rankings – will take an independent, self-guided visit without any contact from UNC coaches.

In sevens games this spring for Grimsley HS, Shaw had 24 tackles, nine tackles for loss, four sacks and an interception while often facing double and triple teams at the line of scrimmage. The Whirlies (8-0) defeated Durham Hillside 42-7, in Greensboro on Friday in the NCHSAA 4-A playoffs round of 16.
