Guilford MLAX Quakers Net 30 Goals in Decisive Win over Randolph

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Guilford men’s lacrosse team exploded for a season-high 30 goals on Saturday, April 24th, claiming a 30-5 ODAC victory over host Randolph College.

Six Quakers (2-2, 2-2 ODAC) netted multiple goals in win, including Connor Sweeney, who netted a game-high eight goals. Teammate Derek Zacatenco came through with six goals, while Brennan Sweeney added five. The trio of Bryce Craig, Bailey Benjamin and Kyle Smaw netted two goals each for Guilford in the victory. There was a total of 63 shots on the game, 37 shots on goal.

Jack Rogers, who received the victory, and Rece Vaughn combined for five saves in the victory. Rogers made two saves in three attempts while Vaughn picked up three saves for the Quakers.

Zacatenco scored three goals and Connor Sweeney drove home two goals in the opening quarter as Guilford established a 10-1 lead. The Quakers scored nine straight goals to open the contest.

Connor Sweeney came through with three more goals in the second quarter while his brother and teammate Brennan Sweeney added two, helping the Quakers stretch the lead to 19-1.

The Sweeney tandem continued to be a nuisance for the Randolph () defense in the third frame, combining for five of the eight goals in the quarter, as Guilford assumed a 27- 3 advantage.

The final three Guilford goals came in the fourth, from the trio of Justin Barry, Brennan Sweeney and Smaw.

The Quakers will complete the regular season with a series of home games against Hampden-Sydney (April 27th), Washington & Lee (April 28th) and Shenandoah (May 1).
