LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Lynchburg baseball completed a doubleheader sweep of Guilford on Sunday, April 25th, by earning wins of 20-3 and 8-1 in ODAC play in Lynchburg, Va.
GAME 1: LYNCHBURG 20, GUILFORD 3
Lynchburg (24-11, 14-4 ODAC) capitalized on four multi-run innings, including a 13-run eighth, to earn a 20-3 victory in the opening game. The Hornets had four players with at least two RBI, including Garret Jackson and Holden Fielder, who finished with three-RBI apiece. Five Lynchburg hitters notched at least two hits in the victory.
Meanwhile, Guilford (2-13, 2-13 ODAC) was led at the plate by Allden Horne (3-4, 2 RBI), Ellis Stokes (2-4) and Carter Davis (2-3).
The first of the three Guilford runs came in the sixth, when Horne delivered a single to left that plated Tanner Hobbs from second. Two innings later, in the eighth, Horne again scored Hobbs, this time with a single to right field.
The final Quaker run came in the ninth after Clay Dilday roped a single to right field that brought home Ryan Croom.
GAME 2: LYNCHBURG 8, GUILFORD 1
The Hornets’ (25-11, 15-3 ODAC) offense continued to roll in the second game with the trio of Cameron Lane (2-4, RBI, 2 runs), Garrett Jackson (3-4, 2 runs) and Avery Neaves (2-5, RBI, run, 2 doubles) finished with multi-hit games.
Guilford (2-14, 2-14 ODAC) was led at the plate by Austin Bailey, who closed 2-for-4 from the plate with an RBi. The Quakers managed five hits over the course of the afternoon.
Lynchburg grabbed a 3-0 lead in the first three innings, but Guilford used a Bailey single to bring home Nick Boles from third.
The Hornets added five runs over the final four innings, including two in the fifth and eighth, to complete the 8-1 win.
The Quakers return to the diamond on Tuesday, April 27th, when they play at Roanoke at 6 p.m.
