Elon Women’s Soccer Falls to Milwaukee in Opening Round of NCAA Championship

CARY, N.C. — The Elon University women’s soccer team came up short against Milwaukee in its second-ever appearance in the NCAA Championship on April 28, 1-0.

“This was so exciting to be a part of,” said head coach Neil Payne. “I’m really proud of our season. I feel like we played a good game against a good team. Full credit to Milwaukee. They came out strong. We wish them the best of luck in the next round.”

THE RUNDOWN
-For the third game in a row, neither team was able to score in the first half. Both teams went into intermission with one shot on goal.
-In the 77th minute, Milwaukee’s McKenna Stratton found the back of the net to give the Panthers the lead and eventually secure the win.

NOTES
-Sarah Bevington registered the Phoenix’s lone shot on goal.
-Beky Myers led the Phoenix in shots taken (2), followed by Bevington, Kayla Hodges, Abby Fusca and Carson Jones with one apiece.
-McKenna Dalfonso (6-4) registered three saves on the day.
-Milwaukee’s goal ended a 4.5-match shutout streak.
-Elon ends its historic season with a 6-4 (3-1 CAA) record.
