Guilford Quakers Clinch ODAC MLAX Tournament Berth, Down Hornets 17-13

GREENSBORO, N.C. – A 17-13 victory over Shenandoah on Senior Day at Armfield Athletic Center clinched a spot in the ODAC Men’s Lacrosse Tournament for Guilford. The Quakers, who trailed 10-7 head into the final quarter, managed 10 goals to earn their trip.

The Quakers (3-4, 3-4 ODAC) scored the first seven goals of the fourth, including two from Connor Sweeney, as they moved in front 13-10. Dimaggio Wilson opened with a goal, following a pass from Brendan Sweeney, and Nick Honkomp moved Guilford to within one, 10-9, at the 13:28 mark.

Bailey Benjamin knotted the game at 10-all with a goal following Brendan Sweeney’s third straight assist. Connor Sweeney put Guilford ahead 12-10 with back-to-back goals, the second of which came at the 9:52 mark. Bryce Craig followed with a strike of his own with 8:40 remaining and Jax Atkins capped off the seven-goal offensive explosion with a goal following an assist by Brendan Sweeney.

Shenandoah (4-8, 2-7 ODAC) netted the next three goals, trimming the deficit to 14-13, before a series of strikes by Honkomp coupled with a goal from Benjamin Bailey, provided the Quakers with the four-goal cushion.

The two teams battled to a 3-3 tie in the first half before Shenandoah netted seven third quarter goals to move in front 10-7.

Logan Clingerman was the lone Hornet to net multiple third quarter goals, while the four Quaker goals all came from different sources.

Honkomp led the way offensively with five goals while Brendan Sweeney added four assists. Guilford had five players with multi-goal performances including Benjamin (three), Wilson (two), Zacatenco (two) and Connor Sweeney (two).

Senior netminder Jack Rogers, who picked up the win for Guilford, tallied 13 saves. His counterpart, Mark Isabelle finished the game with 12 saves.
