Elon Women’s Lacrosse Tops William & Mary in Regular-Season Finale, 16-6

ELON, N.C. — Elon University women’s lacrosse posted a 10-goal victory over conference rival William & Mary in its regular-season finale on Mary 2, 16-6.

THE RUNDOWN
-The Phoenix took an early 3-0 lead at the start of the game. After back-to-back goals from the Tribe, Elon went on a 4-0 run to make the halftime score 7-2.
-Elon’s run continued into the second half as the maroon and gold added four more unanswered goals to increase its lead to nine (11-2) with 16:35 on the clock. William & Mary eventually responded with three goals of their own to cut the Elon lead to six (11-5), but the Phoenix outscored the Tribe 5-1 in the remaining time to claim the win.

NOTES
-Sara Bouwman registered a game-best five goals for the third time this season, matching her career high. The last time she scored five goals was at William & Mary on April 3.
-Cate Mackel and Gillian Curran were the other two players in the game with hat tricks, posting three apiece.
-Mae McGlynn recorded two goals, three assists, two ground balls and one caused turnover on the day.
-Julia Dalmass led the team in caused turnovers (2) in addition to tying McGlynn in ground balls. She also tallied one draw control.
-In the draw circle, Curran paced the Phoenix with a season-best six draw controls.
-Paulina DiFatta (9-2) totaled 12 saves on the day, just one shy of her season high. She has now finished in the double digits in saves in three consecutive games. The goalie also led the Phoenix in ground balls, finishing the game with five for a new season high.
-Prior to the game, Elon honored its nine seniors as part of their senior recognition, Quinn Daly, Bouwman, McGlynn, Meredith Curtin, Claire Smesko, Ashley Duggan, Campbell Armstrong, Allie Cerrone and DiFatta.
-Elon finishes the regular season at 9-2 (3-1 CAA), while William & Mary falls to 3-9 (0-4 CAA).
