Quite the ending on Thursday night at First National Bank Field, where the Greensboro Grasshoppers defeated the Hickory Crawdads 8-7, on the strength of a bottom of the ninth inning Walk-Off home run, off of the bat of Greensboro’s right fielder, LoLo Sanchez…
Sanchez brought home Liover Peguero, who had singled, and just after Peguero crossed home plate, Sanchez followed him to the dish and the celebration began, and this moment came with that shot Sanchez hit to left field, out beyond the berm, and all of this action, with Peguero and Sanchez scoring, came with TWO OUTS in the bottom of the ninth inning…
A Walk-Off HR with two gone, and one man on, and the game on the line, in the bottom of nine…..
What a way for this night to end….The LoLo Sanchez home run that let all of the fans go home, with a victory in hand…..
And as you look at the way the game ended, you also have to look back to how the game began….The Greensboro Grasshoppers jumped on the Hickory Crawdads early in the contest, as the Hoppers took a 4-0 after just one inning of play…The Hoppers were soon up by five runs, 5-0 at the end of three innings……..
But the Hickory Crawdads would not lay down and let the Hoppers jump/hop all over them…Hickory responded with 2 runs in the third, 2 runs in the 4th, and then one more run in the fifth inning, to tie the game right up at 5-5…The Crawdads took their first lead of the night in the top of the seventh inning on a solo home run from Blaine Crim, and the Hoppers hopped off of the mat/turf and evened the score in the bottom of the 7th frame, when Jesus Valdez scored to make it 7-7, and Valdez crossed the plate after a double from the bat of Francisco Acuna…
After a scoreless eighth inning, Chris Seise scored for the Hickory Crawdads in the top of the ninth inning, and it appeared that the ‘Dads might leave out of the park with the Thursday night ‘W’, since HIC now led the Hoppers 7-6, and in bottom of the ninth, the Hoppers were down by just one run, but it was looking like curtains for the home team, as the clock was approaching 11pm and the Hoppers were down to their last out, before LoLo Sanchez stepped up and “hit one out of the park”…..
The two-out Walk-Off home run by Sanchez made the final score, Greensboro Grasshoppers 8, Hickory Crawdads 7…..
